The field of percussion consists of a vast collection of instruments and musical styles. What began as ventures with my school concert band and pursuits to become a rock star led to a career as a multi-instrumentalist.
I currently perform with local orchestras, chamber groups, direct school ensembles and perform on the streets of Sydney, Australia as a malletSTATION soloist.
My undergraduate studies in music education gave me the tools and experience to ultimately become Professor of Music at Arizona State University. Retiring in 2020, I moved to Australia where I continue to offer private lessons and classes to aspiring musicians.
I had the good fortune to study and collaborate with many prominent composers over my career. Inspired by their abilities to produce fresh expressions with ever-changing musical languages, I constructed a small library of pieces as offerings to my students and collaborators.
I have been playing percussion for over 5 decades. My career evolved along with the musical tastes of my collaborators and audiences. With experience in contemporary classical music, keyboard percussion repertoire, orchestral percussion, musical theatre, pop/jazz/rock drum set, and world music my calendar varies wildly from week to week.
Bachelor of Music Education: Baylor University
Master of Music: University of Illinois
Doctor of Musical Arts: University of North Texas
In addition to traditional jobs playing pitched and non-pitched percussion instruments, I offer live performances for events using a malletSTATION keyboard percussion controller. With a catalog of over 500 tunes, I have sets of pop, rock, light jazz, and world music ready for any occassion. I also offer private music lessons for individuals of all ages and skill levels.
